Recovery Programs
Faith Lutheran Church supports several recovery and counseling programs that meet regularly on our church campus, including:
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. For more information, visit www.aahouston.org. To view the five-day-a-week AA meeting schedule at Faith Lutheran, enter zip code 77401 and select “Faith American Lutheran Church.”
Al-Anon
The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems. In Al-Anon, members do not give direction or advice to other members. Instead, they share their personal experiences and stories, and invite other members to “take what they like and leave the rest”—that is, to determine for themselves what lesson they could apply to their own lives. An Al-Anon meeting takes place at Faith Lutheran Church every Sunday at 7:00 PM. For more information, visit www.houstonalanon.org.
Cornerstone Recovery
Cornerstone Recovery is a unique teen-based, 12-step recovery program, based on positive peer pressure and a drug and alcohol free environment. In addition to counseling services, the program offers 12-step meetings for parents and teens, as well as staffed functions every weekend. Cornerstone’s uniqueness is its combination of peer group involvement and the various activities which show the kids that recovery can be fun. Cornerstone Recovery meetings are held at Faith Lutheran Church every Saturday from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. For more information, visit www.cornerstoneteamcounseling.com.
Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP)
The Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP – pronounced “Puh-Dap”) has been providing free substance abuse recovery services to youth ages 12-25 and their parents in the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area since 1971. The program provides 12-step support group meetings, crisis intervention, client assessments and referrals, individual and family counseling sessions, drug-free social and recreational activities, and community education and prevention programs. For more information, visit www.pdaphouston.org.
GreySheeters Anonymous
GreySheeters Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from compulsive overeating. The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop eating compulsively. There are no dues or fees for GSA membership. Our primary purpose is to stay abstinent and help other compulsive overeaters to achieve abstinence. GreySheeters Anonymous meetings are held at Faith Lutheran Church every Saturday at 9:00 AM. For more information, visit www.greysheet.org.
Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
Narcotics Anonymous is a global, community-based organization that offers recovery from the effects of addiction through working a twelve-step program, including regular attendance at group meetings. The group atmosphere provides help from peers and offers an ongoing support network for addicts who wish to pursue and maintain a drug-free lifestyle. NA does not focus on any particular drug; NA’s approach makes no distinction between drugs including alcohol. Narcotics Anonymous meetings are held at Faith Lutheran Church every Tuesday at 6:30 PM. For more information, visit www.na.org.
