Hello from Lima, Peru! I was initially planning on writing a daily update on our trip to visit our partners at Vida Nueva, but that proved too difficult. The internet is cranky so I need to be near wi-fi, which means the hotel, and that has basically been only the place where we rest and I read.
So I’m just going to share some thoughts from the weekend and write something up longer after we get back.
On Thursday we had Thanksgiving dinner with Pastor Pedro Bollon and Jorge Garcia, a member of Vida Nueva. We had a nice long conversation, largely made possible because Paul Baerenwald is awesome. Paul has lived and worked in Mexico and speaks Spanish at home with Beatriz and the boys so he not only is a great translator but also adept at small talk. Pastor Pedro listens intently, speaks softly, smiles easily, and speaks much better English that I do Spanish. Continue reading
We will start with dinner and then gather onto 1 of 2 caroling hay rides to bring the cheer to our Bellaire neighbors. Afterwards, we will come back to Faith for cookies and cocoa. People of all ages are welcome to join the fun, no singing experience or ability required!
Serving 2,500 children in need takes a lot of resources! Can you believe that CCSC manages to provide toys, new books, and a holiday food package to all these community members with a small budget of roughly $10 per child? It’s true! And it is successful because people like you give generously to Jingle Bell Express. You are one of our greatest resources! Donate new, unwrapped toys or children’s books. Donations accepted through Sunday, December 8. Stop by the table in the Fellowship Hall for more information and sign up for volunteer opportunities.

On December 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM @ Bellaire United Methodist we will work together as a church family to prepare holiday food bags that CCSC will be passing out to families that need help. Contact Jennifer Finley for more information.

A worship experience with the recovery community in mind. 6TEN begins at 6:10 PM and usually lasts 50 minutes. It is completely different from Sunday morning worship.
6TEN is “an experience of gratitude and healing.” Through holy communion, anointing with oil, music, and prayer we will give thanks for God’s restoration and redemption. Everyone is welcome.
