Elementary Learning Groups (Kindergarten – 4th Grade)
Join us for MOVE on Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM in the Faith Center Gym! Hearts will gravitate toward whatever offers adventure and significance. MOVE, therefore, is not merely about classroom learning; it is interactive, engaging and relational. By learning through interaction children get to be children while exploring their identity in God’s world. Our hope is that exploration enters the home and we can actively encourage parents to be the spiritual leaders they want to be. What happens when home-life and church-life converge? MOVE is the response to our belief that the church’s potential to influence a child dramatically increases when it partners with a parent and the parent’s potential to influence a child dramatically increases when that parent partners with the church.
MOVE learning centralizes on these three tenants:
- We want children to MOVE and participate in learning on Sunday mornings.
- We want children to MOVE forward in their relationship with Jesus.
- We want children to MOVE out into their world to make an impact.
When a child is ready to come forward to the Lord’s table, hold out his/her hand, say “Amen” and receive Holy Communion in a reverent way (no silliness or goofiness that is disrespectful of others at the table), then they and their parents are ready to come to a First Communion Workshop. We will offer these on Sunday afternoons, two to three times per year. Pastor Kerry and Pastor Tan will teach parents, age appropriate instruction will be provided for the children, and they will begin receiving Holy Communion the next time they are in worship.
Milestone Ministries is a way for us to celebrate the promises made in baptism, provide learning opportunities for families and recommit ourselves as a congregation to nurture one another as the body of Christ as we mark “milestones” in a person’s journey of faith. The first milestone is baptism. Throughout a child’s growing years, we recognize and celebrate new milestones through parent/child classes, small gifts and observances during worship services. Elementary age milestones include learning The Lord’s Prayer, The Ten Commandments, The Apostle’s Creed, First Communion, and “What’s Fair” and “Real Life Faith.”
