Rev. Kerry Nelson – Senior Pastor
Pastor Kerry grew up in North Dakota but got to Texas as soon as he could. He graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN (1983), Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN (1988) and has served in the Houston area for his entire ministry. His passion is helping people find a faith that works in their daily life – a faith that brings joy, guidance, and purpose.
Together with his wife, Kelley Keller, Pastor Kerry’s family includes four children (Kate, Michael, Hugh, and Emma) and three grandchildren (Nicholas, Sasha, and Harper). On his days off he will either be searching for golf balls just off the fairway or riding his Harley through the Texas countryside.
Rev. Junfeng Tan – Associate Pastor
Pastor Tan joined the Faith team in 2013 after serving 11 years as a pastor in the South Dakota Synod. Born in China, Pastor Tan graduated from Northwest University in Xi’an, taught Chinese to international students for five years, and then moved to the United States in 1997 to pursue graduate studies in Chinese literature at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. Soon after arriving he was baptized in a Chinese Lutheran congregation, left the University, and began his training to become a pastor at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. Pastor Tan feels God’s call to serve Chinese people by proclaiming the gospel of God’s love.
Pastor Tan and his wife, Eunsook, have two sons, John and Joseph. In his spare time he enjoys reading, surfing the internet, and playing with his two boys.
Stacy Williams – Director of Operations
Stacy Williams is originally from central Louisiana but has lived in Texas since 1997; she calls herself a “Texana.” She earned an A.S. in Accounting from LA Tech, a B.S. in Business Administration from Northwood University, and an M.B.A. from Texas Southern University.
Stacy comes to Faith from CrossPoint Community Church (LCMS) where for three years she was the Director of Communication and Administrative Services. She manages the day-to-day operations of the business office, supports the pastoral staff, and supervises staff and volunteers. She brings over 15 years of corporate experience in human resources, accounting, and general office management.
Stacy has two daughters, Ayana and Kevondra, who are both graduates of Sam Houston State University. When she is not at work she enjoys cooking, traveling, and hanging out with her grandsons, Myles and Kase.
Dr. Clayton Faulkner – Director of Worship, Music, and Technology
Clayton is a native Texan with over 15 years of professional experience in worship ministry. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Southwest Texas State University, a Master of Arts in Worship from Southwestern Seminary, and a Doctor of Worship Studies degree from the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. Clayton is a gifted musician and loves to encourage people to deepen their faith through biblically rooted worship.
Clayton is married to Kate and they have two young boys, Deacon and Masamo. Both of his sons are proudly adopted from Ethiopia. He enjoys cooking for his family, reading, and films.
John Vickery – Director of Youth and Family Ministry
John grew up in northwest Washington state and has three younger sisters who all still live there. He was a camp counselor at a Lutheran camp in Bellingham, WA and served full time as a Challenge Course Coordinator. In 2015, after being in camp ministry for almost five years, John decided to pursue a position as a youth director in a congregational setting. He moved to rural Iowa to serve as a Children, Youth, and Family Director. He was married in August 2017 and he and his wife, Kelsey, are very excited to now be serving in the Houston area at Faith Lutheran Church.
John is also a student working to complete his bachelor’s degree in hope of continuing on to seminary in the future. When John is out of the office and has free time he enjoys watching television, swimming, rock climbing, or simply having conversation with friends.
Kelsey Vickery – Children’s Ministry Coordinator
Kelsey grew up in the beautiful state of Oregon where all of her family still lives today. As a child she had a giant love for Jesus and set a goal of one day being a camp counselor. After serving for six summers between two different camps she was given the opportunity to move to NE Iowa and serve as a youth director. In Iowa she reconnected with John, a friend from camp, and on August 5, 2017 she married him!
Now both Kelsey and her new husband John serve at Faith sharing their passion for teaching kids and adults about the love of Jesus!
Yu Cao – Office Coordinator
Yu Cao came to the United States in 1999 after she graduated from Peking University Health Science Center with a Bachelor of Medicine. She studied Neuroscience at the Ohio State University, where she earned her Ph.D. in 2006. She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Ohio State University before she moved to Houston with her family in December 2010.
Yu has been happily married for many years. She and her husband, Jinbin, have two daughters, Alice and Belle. Yu enjoys reading and cooking when she gets some time of her own.
Avier Whitfield – Office Coordinator
Avier joined the Faith staff in September 2016, assisting Stacy Williams with office support. She grew up in Houston, Texas and is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. (B.A. in Radio/TV/Film). Avier has one son and enjoys traveling and fashion. She plans on starting an online clothing boutique and a non-profit organization that caters to young adults that are in need of organ transplantation.
Alan Balius – Organist/Choirmaster
Alan Balius has been honored to serve God in Faith’s music ministry since 1998. He leads Faith Choir, Faith Bell Choir, plays the organ at the Heritage worship service, and plays in Faith Alive! Band. Alan’s full-time job is as an architect; he holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Houston, and a Master of Theology degree from Southern Methodist University. Alan and Barbara Morgan have been married since 2008, and their daughter Katie is the light of their lives. Alan’s hobbies include model railroading, joining friends and family at Ninfa’s, and cheering for the Astros.
Kendolyn Cooper Pope – Director, Faith Schools
Kendolyn Cooper Pope grew up in Houston and began as Director at the Day School in 2012. She is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, GA (B.A. in Child Development/Early Childhood Education) and The George Washington University in Washington, DC (M.A. in Museum Education). She previously served as Director of National Presbyterian Church Child Care Center and Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the Children’s Museum of Houston.
Kendolyn and her husband, James, have a beautiful daughter named Carys. They love to travel, eat out, and learn new things together. In her spare time, Kendolyn loves to try out new craft projects, swim, and read.
Alicia Obando – Building Administrator
Ms. Alicia Obando has served Faith Lutheran Church faithfully since 1970.
Her responsibilities include building care, scheduling, and security. Hers is the first face that many see as the wider community steps onto our campus each evening for recovery meetings and other gatherings. She loves this congregation and takes her job very seriously. She is an absolute blessing to have on our staff!
Ana Rivas – Custodian/Janitorial Services
Ana began working at Faith in 2008 and has become an indispensable member of our staff. She keeps our buildings neat and clean, sets up each room for the many different things that happen, and prepares the rooms in the Faith House for all of our new Faith House guests. She works hard, is very dependable, and is always willing to help the rest of the staff improve their Spanish language skills.
