We pray to God for our “daily bread,” but as a people we are afflicted with obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The bodies God gave to us strain under our excess weight, our joints hurt, and our energy to do God’s work lags. This is not what we want…and it sure isn’t what God wants for us, either.
God wants us to be well. Our spiritual health and our physical well-being are connected intimately. But how can we change the unhealthy habits of a lifetime? How can we come to see our wellness as worship of God?
In October and November, we will explore these and other questions as we embark-as a whole church-on a study of The Daniel Plan: a 40 Day Journey to Wellness. Created by Pastor Rick Warren this small group program will open our eyes to the relationship between faith, food, and fitness. It will help us to focus on wellness. We will sustain our journey to health by surrounding ourselves with circles of friends who are walking the same journey to wellness. There will be more details coming soon. For now, open your bible to the Book of Daniel and read Chapter 1, verses 1-20. When you’re done, ask God to prepare you for your journey toward a healthier lifestyle.
