On Sunday, February 10, 2013 (Transfiguration Sunday and Chinese New Year) our congregation made the momentous decision to step out in faith and call an Associate Pastor fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. With their approval, we are ready now to move forward in a process that will happen very quickly.
With the help of the churchwide office we have already identified a primary candidate for this position. When we called him that Sunday to let him know that we are ready to continue to our next steps, seeking some weekends that might work for him and his wife to travel to Houston, we learned that last November they had scheduled a vacation for February 28-March 7 in Galveston! At the Church Council meeting in February, we saw this as an opportunity to move very quickly. Thus we gathered the names of those people that the Church Council would like to see serving on our Call Committee. Invitations to serve have been sent out and the Committee has already met.
We are now planning to host the candidate and his family at Faith on Sunday, March 3. The candidate will preach at both services and be available for a Q&A time at 10:15 AM in the sanctuary. Please mark your calendars and plan to be in worship that day.
We also hope to conduct an interview that weekend. If all goes well, the candidate’s name will be submitted to the Executive Board, then Church Council, and then a special congregational meeting for vote, possibly on April 7. Again, if all goes well, we would anticipate a start date sometime after the school year, in early to mid-summer.
Continue to pray, not only for this process, but specifically for the candidate and his family as well as the people agreeing to serve on the Call Committee.
